Omegle closed in November 2023. You can still use the one-to-one stranger-chat format on current services. A good first line gives the other person an easy way to answer without asking for private information.
Open with something easy
Try “What have you been listening to lately?”, “Have you watched anything you would recommend?” or “What do you like doing on a quiet day?” Pick one question and wait for the answer.
If someone seems unsure, offer a small answer of your own: “I have been trying to cook something new each week. Do you enjoy cooking?” Avoid turning the opening into an interview.
Follow the detail they give you
If they mention a game, ask “What do you like about it?” If they name a film, try “Would you recommend it to someone who does not know the series?” If they talk about a hobby, ask “How did you get started?”
Listen for a detail you can respond to. “I tried that once and found it difficult” gives them something to build on. You do not need a list of fresh questions every time there is a pause.
Handle a quiet moment
Try “Would you rather talk about music or games?” If the sound is broken, say “I can see you, but I cannot hear you.” Check camera and microphone help if the problem is on your side.
A short answer may mean the person is tired or wants to leave. Let them decide how much to share.
Leave politely, or leave immediately
For an ordinary goodbye, say “Nice talking with you. I am going to try another conversation” or “Thanks for the recommendation. Take care.” Then use Next or stop.
If someone pressures you, you can leave without a farewell. Do not share contact details, money or intimate material. Report rule-breaking behavior and block unwanted contact.
