Choose 1v1 Video Chat for a private, camera-led random conversation with one matched person. Choose Global Rooms for public, room-based text conversation with multiple participants. Both are account-based Meetchi experiences, but their audience, media and privacy expectations are different.

How 1v1 video chat works

After sign-in and device permission, matching assigns a room and the browser joins the live media channel. Your local camera appears smaller and the matched participant's video takes the main area. Next leaves that match and starts a new search; it does not save the person for reconnection.

How Global Rooms work

Choose Rooms in the navigation, select a global room and join its shared text thread. The room includes its title, topic, public message stream and composer. A room is not a private-message window, so everyone currently viewing it may see what you post.

Which mode should you choose?

  • Choose 1v1 when you want a spontaneous face-to-face conversation and are comfortable granting camera/microphone access.
  • Choose Global Rooms when you want to read the room first, talk in text or participate in a group topic without enabling a camera.
  • Choose private messaging, not a Global Room, for a later one-to-one conversation with an accepted friend.

Privacy, report and block

A 1v1 match is narrower than a public room, but the other participant can still record locally. A Global Room post has a broader audience, so never publish identifying information. Leave first when needed, report content or conduct that breaks the rules, and block an account to stop unwanted contact. See the Safety Center for practical boundaries.
