Find a shared interest
Start with something you already enjoy: a game, a kind of music, cooking, drawing or a sport you follow. Ask “Have you tried anything new lately?” and offer an example from your own week.
When you find overlap, stay with it. If you both like cooking, ask about a recipe instead of immediately asking where the person lives.
